Operating principle
The active substance of Aygestin, norethindrone is a synthetic gestagenic hormone drug (a drug containing the ovary's yellow body hormones or their synthetic analogs), has an effective effect on the endometrium (the inner lining of the uterus). Indications for use
Secondary amenorrhea (discontinuation of normal menstrual cycles for more than 6 months), dysfunctional bleeding (uterine bleeding caused by abnormal ovarian function), endometriosis (the appearance of tissue sites in various organs, polymentorrhea with a shortened phase of the yellow body (menstruation lasting more than 8 days, due to a violation of the formation of the hormones of the yellow body), similar in structure to the inner shell of the uterus and subject to cyclic changes, respectively, the menstrual cycle), endometrial cancer, mastodynia (pain in the mammary glands) and diffuse mastopathy (multiple focal seals in the mammary gland).
Aygestin safety information
During premenstrual syndrome this medical remedy is prescribed internally at a dose of 0.005-0.01g (5-10 mg) per day (1-2 tablets), starting from the 16th day of the cycle to the 25th day. In case of dysfunctional uterine bleeding and cystic glandular hyperplasia (proliferation) of the endometrium, 1-2 tablets are prescribed per day for 6-12 days. To prevent the re-emergence of signs of the disease the pills are taken at the same dose during the 16th to 25th day of the cycle (usually together with an estrogen medical remedy, for example, ethinyl estradiol,).
In case of the endometriosis, the remedy is prescribed for a long time (for 6 months), 1 tablet per day from the 5th to the 25th day of the cycle or 1/2 tablet every 2-3 weeks for 4-6 months.
In case of a climacteric syndrome, 1 tablet a day is prescribed, if necessary, together with an estrogen preparation, for example, ethinyl estradiol at a dose of 0.025-0.05mg (25-50mcg per day).
In all cases, doses of norethisterone should be selected individually, depending on the nature of the disease, the effectiveness of the therapy and the tolerability of the medical remedy.
