Drug Uses
Topamax is an oral drug with anticonvulsant and antimigraine properties. As anticonvulsant, Topamax can be administered to patients aged 2 years and older. As antimigraine agent, Topamax can be administered to patients aged 12 years and older. Topamax oral tablets are approved as:
- initial monotherapy of newly diagnosed epilepsy;

- prevention of drop attacks and treatment of seizures caused by Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS);
- adjunctive therapy of seizures in patients who fail to control seizures by means of other anticonvulsants;
- prophylactic therapy of recurring migraine attacks in adolescents and adults.
The maximum dose of Topamax for epileptic patients is 400mg per day in two divided doses. The standard doses of Topamax for migraine prevention vary from 50mg to 100mg per day in two divided doses.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take your usual dose of Topamax, use it as soon as you remember. Be attentive and do not use extra (double) dose of this antiepileptic and antimigraine agent if it is almost time for the next prescribed tablet.
More Information
