Drug Uses
Singulair is a long-acting bronchodilator agent also known as leukotriene receptor antagonist. A single or daily intake of Singulair pills is useful for:
Management of asthma of various etiology and all grades of severity in patients over 2 years old.
Relief of symptoms of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients aged 6 and 24 months, respectively.
Bronchodilator agent Singulair is effective for prophylaxis of asthma and other allergic disorders of respiration in patients aged over 2 years. Singulair is also indicated for prophylaxis of airway narrowing associated with high physical activity in patients over 6 years old.
The mechanism of Singulair action is in relaxation of the bronchi smooth muscles and expansion of the airways. For prevention and management of asthma symptoms, the adult patients should take one 10 mg tablet of Singulair spaced by 24-hour intervals.
Children and adolescents suffering from allergic rhinitis or asthma should take lower doses of Singulair than adults. The patients of this category should use a single oral granules or chewable Singulair tablet of 4 mg or 5 mg per day.
Missed dose
If you did not take Singulair as prescribed, do not take the leukotriene receptor antagonist at all on this day. Next day, return to the regular dosing schedule of Singulair.
More Information
Bronchodilator effect is achieved within 120 minutes after administration of Singulair tablets and maintained until the next dose. Optimal asthma control is observed within the first day of Singulair-therapy.
Storage
Film-coated tablets, oral granules and chewable tablets of Singulair should be stored in its original package at room temperature between 15°C to 30°C. The bronchodilator agent should be protected from exposure to bright light and excessive humidity.
